Indigenous Relations

Keyera is committed to developing and maintaining meaningful, long-term relationships with our neighbours and with the Indigenous communities near our operations.

We recognize that Indigenous communities are unique rights' holders who have a distinct relationship to the land. We seek to understand their diverse values and traditions, and commit to active consultation and engagement with impacted Indigenous communities in advance of projects and during the full life span of each facility and related Keyera infratructure.

Guiding Principles

Keyera’s approach to Indigenous relations is guided by the following principles:

  • Keyera respects the diversity of Indigenous cultures and seeks to understand the customs, values and traditions of Indigenous peoples.

  • Keyera is committed to honest, open, ongoing communication with Indigenous communities affected by our operations and seeks to engage in timely and meaningful consultation with these communities.

  • Keyera supports strategies intended to contribute to building capacity in Indigenous communities, such as training, employment, business development and community investment opportunities related to our operational activities.

Keyera is developing full-orbed and mutually beneficial relationships with the Indigenous communities near our areas of operations. This includes growing Indigenous business involvement in our projects and operations to enable Indigenous companies to grow and in return give back to their respective communities. Keyera also actively seeks to partner with Indigenous communities on community-led initiatives that increase the health and well-being of each respective community. In so doing, we believe we can mitigate potential effects of our activities, as well as contribute to the growth of each community.

To date, Keyera is engaged with approximately 30 Indigenous communities throughout the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. We look forward to continuing to grow these relationships and to support the increased capacity of each community as Keyera sustains and grows our operations in Western Canada and beyond.
