CALGARY, June 9 /CNW/ - Earlier today, Keyera Energy Management Ltd, a subsidiary of Keyera Facilities Income Fund, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") with the Province of British Columbia, Northern Lights College and Lakeland College with respect to the ongoing development of petroleum related training and education programs for the oil and gas industry.
"This is a great example of how industry can work together with educational institutions and provincial governments to develop innovative career-based programs," said Jim Bertram, Keyera President and Chief Executive Officer. "We at Keyera are very proud to be an industry leader in training and education and are excited about the opportunities to bring our Competency Management and Development System ("CMDS") to British Columbia."
"The natural gas and petroleum industry plays a pivotal role in British Columbia's economy and the skilled labour force we have working in the northeast area of our province is a major reason for our success," said Blair Lekstrom, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources in British Columbia. "I want to thank Keyera, Lakeland College and Northern Lights College for their collaboration on this agreement, which acknowledges the existing, and future, talent we have working in British Columbia."
"Our longstanding relationship with Lakeland College has played an important role in the evolution of the CMDS program," remarked Owen Baker, Chief Inspector for Keyera. "Now, with Northern Lights College and the Province of British Columbia signing this MOU, there is an opportunity to reach more students which will further contribute to the development of a skilled workforce. That is something we all benefit from."
Keyera originally developed CMDS as a training and development program for its employees as part of its commitment to a safe and healthy work environment. Since that time, through unique partnerships with educational institutions and the support of the petroleum industry, CMDS has evolved to include College Certificate and Diploma programs that recognize employee competence. CMDS has been recognized by the Conference Board of Canada as an outstanding education and lifelong learning initiative that addresses the impact of workplace literacy and essential skills on employee health and safety.
