Delivering progress on emissions reduction
In alignment with our long-term corporate strategy and our belief that global demand for lower-carbon energy will continue to grow, Keyera has set near-term and long-term greenhouse gas emissions and emissions intensity targets and developed a parallel path energy transition strategy.
In 2021, we set GHG emissions reduction targets with two main goals.
- Reduce the GHG emissions intensity of our operations by 25% by 2025; and
- Reduce the GHG emission intensity of our operations by 50% by 2035
In 2024, we achieved our 2025 goal, one year ahead of schedule.
Decarbonizing our base operations
We are reducing the emissions of our operations by investing in technology and efficiency, optimizing utilization of facilities, supporting renewables and exploring Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS). Decarbonization efforts enable us to address regulatory impacts and stakeholder concerns, as well as improve operational efficiency and reduced costs.
Exploring new opportunities
In parallel with our efforts to decarbonize our base business, Keyera is evaluating strategic, lower-carbon services and business models that leverage our current asset base and support our industry to reduce its emissions. In particular, we have a vision to leverage Keyera’s assets in the Alberta Industrial Heartland to provide cost-competitive decarbonization services to our customers.
