Pipeline & operations
Safe, reliable, and responsible energy
Keyera’s pipelines and facilities are designed, built, and operated with a focus on safety, reliability, and environmental performance. Regular inspections and risk-based integrity programs help protect people, communities, and the environment throughout each asset’s life cycle.
Pipeline safety
Keyera’s pipelines connect producers, facilities, and markets across Canada, forming a vital part of the country’s energy infrastructure. They provide the safest and most environmentally responsible way to transport natural gas and natural gas liquids.
Our pipeline safety programs include integrity measures, leak detection, and public awareness initiatives, all designed to protect people, communities, and the environment.
Prevention
We take proactive steps to prevent leaks before pipelines are operational, using strong design, engineering, and maintenance practices to manage risks.
During construction, pipes are coated for protection, welds are thoroughly inspected, and every stage is overseen by qualified inspectors.
After installation, a low voltage electrical current is applied to the pipeline to prevent corrosion, and hydrostatic testing ensures the pipeline’s integrity.
Integrity management
We maintain a comprehensive Pipeline Integrity Management Program that includes risk assessments, integrity monitoring, regular inspection and repairs, as well as reviews and learning.
We routinely perform in-line inspections, or ‘pigging,’ using smart devices that travel inside pipelines to monitor their condition.
If these inspections detect a possible issue, we conduct investigative digs to examine and repair any anomalies.
24/7 monitoring
Our pipelines are monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Operators use real-time systems to continuously track flow, pressure, and overall system performance.
If an irregular condition is detected, our systems can automatically or remotely shut down operations to prevent an incident. In addition, all pipelines and facilities are monitored constantly, whether that’s from inside the pipe, through aerial patrols, or on the ground.
This around-the-clock vigilance helps ensure our systems operate safely and efficiently, every day.
